Local Planning Document - Publication Draft (May 2016)

The Local Planning Document will work with the Aligned Core Strategy to shape future development in Gedling Borough by planning for new homes, jobs and infrastructure. The Aligned Core Strategy sets out the broad policy direction and was adopted in September 2014. It was prepared in conjunction with Broxtowe Borough Council and Nottingham City Council.

The Local Planning Document will shape future development in Gedling Borough by planning for new homes, jobs and infrastructure. As well as providing land for new homes up to 2028, the document also protects existing areas of employment, retail, community facilities, recreation and open spaces, nature conservation and other land uses.  The document contains detailed policies to bring forward land for development and to help in the day to day assessment of planning applications.

There is now a 6 week period for anyone to submit responses on the Publication Draft of the Local Planning Document, running from Monday 23rd May 2016 until 5.00pm Monday 4th July 2016.

Documents can be found online below and at a number of locations in and around the Borough.

Making Responses

The Publication Version of the Local Planning Document is the version of the Plan that Gedling Borough Council wants to adopt. An independent planning inspector will examine the Plan to make sure that it is legal and sound and that the Duty to Cooperate has been met.

Responses made at this stage are treated as a formal representation and considered by the Inspector. This means we have to ask questions that are focussed on these issues rather than more general questions.

  • If your responses are about the way in which the LPD has been prepared then these are likely to relate to whether it is legal or not.
  • If your responses are about the content of the LPD and the strategy it adopts then these are likely to relate to whether it is sound or not.
  • If your responses are about the way we have worked with other authorities then these are likely to relate to the Duty to Cooperate.

To make online responses please find the part of the document you wish to respond to and click the ‘add comments’ button below it. This will bring up a Response Form.  Alternatively a Word version of the Response Form is available below (which you can send to us by email or post). A guidance note to help you complete the Response Form can also be found below.

Supporting Studies

A number of documents have been prepared to inform the preparation of the Local Planning Document. This includes a Housing Background Paper, the Site Selection Document and the Green Belt Assessment.  You are advised to review these documents prior to making responses.  The Supporting Studies can be found on the Borough Council’s website.
